The error cant say that because drives don't have memory, they have space.
What exactly is the error message?

That's what I thought too. Very strange. The error message says: Your Mac OS X startup disk has no more space available for application memory.
The only time I've seen it so far is when I'm working with FCPX. If I go to duplicate a project to another HD, it will process forever and then that message pops up. What's really strange is that it will duplicate the project to the new HD anyway. FCPX will have to be "Force Quit" from there. I don't have a clue. Any thoughts? Thanks. :)

OK that means the hard drive bis full. Go to About this Mac (undet the apple icon top left), and after selecting More Information go to SATA, and sroll down to the hard drive and see how much free space is available. As a rule of thumb it takes 20% free space to work anywhere near efficiently.

So a 500GB drive will require a minimum of 100GB free space.
