getting a new MacBook 17" and need to decide is I want to get one with a Solid State Drive. I've looked online and can't get much info on the drives that come in the new MacBooks. Anyone have info for me on who makes them and how reliable they are?

thx

They are faster with less heat and consume less power but they are a bit pricey and no where near enough volume for most.

yeah I see the Intel is 80GB X25-M. But I do have an external for backup storage and I'm not one for leaving a ton of files on my MAC HD. I'm thinking of protecting against disk failures. I've been very lucky with my current PowerBook. Same HD since 03 and still kicking. I probably won't be as lucky with this new one. just a guess.

I've been running a 128GB SSD for over a a year on my MBP with excellent results. The single biggest performance bump I've ever experienced on a computer.
