There are times when my Mac will not boot up completely. It gets stuck on the blue screen after the apple screen and just goes into hibernation. I'm running Mac OS X 10.5.8 on a Mac Mini. I am new to Mac after spending many years with Microsoft. I have tried several different things to include repairing the permissions and verifying the start up volume, clearing cache and some other maintenance to no avail. Can someone help this rookie I hope I don't have to reinstall anything? Thanks in advance Dave P.S. If you need more info on my Mac just let me know.

G'day cappy and welcome to the forums.

When you do get a successful boot, pop in your Leopard disc and reboot, holding down 'C" immediately after the chimes. Go into Utilities in the Menu bar, select Disk utility and run Repair Disk. You cannot repair a drive you are booted from hence using the Leopard disc, and please don't say you do not have the Leopard disc!

If all is good, run repair Permissions from there and see if there is any improvement. If still problems download a little cleaning utility called AppleJack, print the instructions, and run after booting in single user mode. Here is the download link:-

Well I tried both of your solutions, I shall wait and see if my problem persists. Any other ideas what it might be if this doesn't work? All the help you can give is greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot Dave
