something not right with my mac

hi all
I having problems since downloading mplayerx my search engine on safari keeps changing from google to smart search and new windows keep popping up with mackeeper and other rubbish and txt on web pages certain words are bold like a link or something and general computer just running slow.

what can i do to get rid of this problem?

What software site did you download mplayerx from? My bet is CNET, Softonic, or download.com? Not preaching just curious. Those sites are becoming notorious for adding adware/malware to many of the downloads.

At this point it sounds like you have picked up som malware. Try downloading Adware Medic. Give it a quick run and see if it finds anything. Let it remove any malware it might find.

Not the only place - plenty of illegal video sites and porn sites also try to get you to download a "better" video player or "missing codecs" and in fact download something they call mplayerx - that's just the current name - it could be named anything.

Do not download video players or codecs from those sort of sites - the download will be complete with malware.

Good point Tom. I often forget to mention those as sources for this junkware.
