Shortly have receiving my iMac I noticed some commands produce Japanese characters in their response. How do I turn this off?:

Try typing:

echo $LANG

And see if it says something like en_US.UTF-8, or something else.

Thank you. It was set to ja_JP.UTF-8...why I don't know. How does that environment var. get set and where to I change it, /etc/csh.login?

Apparently this was something I inherited from macports. Sinister to say the least. Thanks again for the hint.
