Can someone please help me. I have a 17inch powerbook, about 7 years old and running OSX 10.4.11. I've suddenly not been able to use the snapshot function (press apple key, shift key and 4. Have I disabled it somehow? I find this feature very useful and would love to have it back.

I'm pretty sure you know what you're talking about after having a Mac for 7 years, but Cmd+Shift+4 brings up the crosshairs to select an area for taking a screenshot. Cmd+Shift+3 takes an entire screenshot and Cmd+Shift+4 then tap "Spacebar" will allow you to capture only the window your mouse is hovering over. Do you mean that when you hit Cmd+Shift+4 you don't get the crosshairs? If nothing is happening, I'm not sure what's wrong because I don't think you can disable that feature.

Thank you for your reply Image X.
Both Cmd+Shift+4 and Cmd+Shift+3 are not working. I don't know why as other shortcuts such as Cmd+C for copy and Cmd+V for paste work OK

Forgive me if this doesn't exist (I'm three versions of OS X ahead of you so there is little doubt in my mind that things have changed) but go to System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > Screen Shots. Do you see the values set for each respective option?

Hi vansmith, thanks for your reply. I've gone to System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > Screen Shots and all the values are set and checked. It still doesn't work!

Very strange, I'm running the same OS as you and I tried all of the keyboard shortcuts, nothing seems to "disable" that feature.

Try the other command button, or the other shift button.

Thanks for your reply MacDude121. I've tried all combinations using the other shift key and command key. Still doesn't work!

Hi MacDude121, vansmith and ImageX,

I ended up sorting the problem out myself by going into system preferences, keyboard, keyboard shortcuts and using Mac Help I just changed the key combinations for the screenshot shortcuts. They work now - yipee.

Thanks for trying to help
