Slide Show For Mac

Hi There Experts,

Am trying to create a slide show for over 10,000 photos. I initially was using screen saver, when I realised screen saver does not take all photos, it takes maybe a couple of hundred or less.

I need to be able to select or remove photos on the fly, transition options, duration, random selection, etc....

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

But a slide show of 10,000+ photos? At a very fast 3 seconds per slide, that's 8 hours and twenty minutes of show. Who is going to sit through that?

Good question Jake.

The first time I read the post I assumed that speedo was going to use only some of the 10,000 slides in each slide show. Now I'm not so sure that's the case.

Graphic Converter will let you create a slide show and control transitions including time delay.

You can base the slide show on files/folders that you select or on search results.

I've only played with it, so I have little experience, but it seems very flexible.

Good point. It's an excellent program and I had forgotten about that feature.

There are several programs out there with varying slideshow capabilities. I think we are going to need more information about the OPs requirements to make a good recommendation though. Some of the programs that come to my mind probablybly weren't intended for large shows with thousands of files for example.

I've been using Graphic Converter for years as my photo editor of choice. It does everything I need and the author is quite responsive to inquiries.

Maybe the OP just wants to set up a Mac to continuously display a set of photos in a shop window, office waiting room or living room? I can't imagine anyone would suffer through 10,000 photos in a single sitting.

But even in a shop window, why 10,000 images? Who is going to stand there looking in the window for over 8 hours? As Sly said, we need to know the real requirement before we can make meaningful recommendations.

I wasn't planning to sit thru 10K+ photos in one sitting, but in two sittings, 5K at a time ))

Anyway, the plan is to connect to a spare TV set by bluetooth or some other method, then let it roll in the living room, 24/7.

In the meantime, I will try downloading Graphic Converter and see how it goes.

Photos will allow you to do that, and if you have an Apple TV, you can AirPlay the slideshow to the TV through that device.

For fifty bucks you could get a Raspberry Pi and run the slide show on it. It would use less energy and take up less space. You could mount it on the back of the TV and run an HDMI cable direct from Pi to TV. There are many software solutions out there for doing this. This one is donation-ware, but it seems pretty easy.

I tried photos, it only takes a subset

What does that mean?

EDIT: I just used Photos to build a slideshow of 10,140 images. Took a few minutes, but it built it and it seems to run just fine. So what does your statement mean?

Sorry maybe I wasnt very clear, it wasnt Photos, I meant screen saver, and selected all photos, but what was displayed was only a couple of hundred, and not everything I selected.

I just tried to build a slide show using Photos, it worked fine, but am still missing one important feature, random play or shuffle. Could not find it. Any idea if this feature is available?
