Hi, I am trying to prepare for upgrading my iMac to Catalina (I think) which does not support 32Bit software. To get ready I have deleted a couple of 32bit apps including SilkyPix; but 'system report' reports it is still in my computer. I have looked in Apps under Finder and in the launchpad - result nothing showing at all. Then I had a very rare brainwave(at least for me) --- shut the computer down, that will sort it out! This I did, full of anticipation, thinking it WILL be gone! Oh no such luck, in Apps under 'system report' the blasted software is still listed as SILKYPIX DEVELOPER STUDIO 4.4 SE. I cannot find the software any where in my computer except in 'system report' so please, how do I get rid of it?

Very best regards from Keith in Derby England.

Hi, Just had yet another very rare brainwave ----- if I upgrade to Catalina will SILKYPIX software be automatically deleted, or is that hoping for TOO much?

Regards from Keith in Derby England.

It depends on if you do an in place upgrade, or a clean install.

As far as finding those files, you can use EasyFind, DEVONtechnologies | Needful Things. And it will locate the files, then you will have to navigate to their location to delete them.

If you do the upgrade, the app will be prevented from running and flagged with the "prohibited" symbol over the greyed out name.

Hi Jake, please expand that statement - when you say 'the app will be prevented from running' do you refer to Catalina or Silkypix? Sorry if I am being thick but it is a case of easily getting mixed up in my simple mind which gets worse as each year dashes past, I will soon be 86! Nice to hear from you again, hope all is well with you and yours?

Very best regards from Keith in Derby England.

ferrarr, hi there I did post earlier saying that I had downloaded DEVON technologies and under hidden files I found Silkypix software and was able to delete it all, thank you. I feel I must have forgotten to click on' post quick reply'.

Very best regards from Keith in Derby England.

Hi Keith,

Standing in for Jake (hope he doesn't mind) - he means that the app or apps won't work. macOS Catalina is the Operating System (OS) and will work fine; but none of the 32 bit apps will work.

Good to see you back again. 86 - not old. Ageing Juvenile (Comes from the radio shows "Round the Horne" and "Beyond Our Ken" - you must remember them:D)

Ian, nice to hear from you once more!!! I hope you and the family are all well? Mavis and I are both OK - thank goodness, CV19 is the very last thing we need in our lives. The rest of our family, two girls, one grand daughter and four great grand children plus a single grand daughter at Sheffield University (when open) are all coping with it all.
I certainly remember those two radio programs but I used to prefer the Navy Lark - "Lefthand down a bit it is Sir" is one bit I do recall. Oh happy days!!! Stay well, from Keith.

Keith, Ian has summarized it properly (or is that "summarised"). In any event, Catalina will make changes I described automatically. You can delete the app, if you can find it all, or just leave it as it is.

Wanted to visit the UK this Spring, CV19 got in the way. Now can't get there because of the 14 day quarantine, which is, IMHO, unnecessary. Still hoping to get there in November.

Jake, sorry about the 14 day quarantine but it is all down to to China and our rather presumptuous MP's I am very frightened about it really because at my time of life I do not think I could survive CV19. On the TV we have seen shots of survivors leaving hospital in wheelchairs unable to walk. Oh God forbid it happening to Mavis or myself - absolutely devastating. Cheer up Keith for goodness sakes. Keith, it's not your problem about the quarantine. I just think people are overreacting to this mess. It's definitely a threat to oldsters like you and me (I'm 75), but for most folks, it's just the flu. But fear seems to have gotten hold of decision makers.

Oh, well, off my soapbox. Don't want this to be a political thread. Not everyone sees it as I do, and they are fully entitled to their opinions.
