This might seem like a newbie question to some but, I am looking to Sell my Macbook on Ebay. If/when my book is sold should I reset it to Factory settings and how actually do you go about doing this?? BTW.. I am not having any luck finding the Orginal OSX CDs the MacBook came with..

It is a Apple MacBook 13.3" Laptop purchased in 2009.

definitely...well, i would. unless of course some of the improved settings are part of your sale.

in disk utility " EDIT - with Lion" there is an option to erase the hard drive of info. i have seen these but have not attempted it, so i do not know of the consequence of doing it. Apple communities will advise you do doubt, indeed will some of the more experienced members here. just hang on a bit if you are not entirely confident.

BTW i wouldn't worry about the 2009 OSX CD. you will have probably updated the software since then to Snow leopard have you? if so the original software will be of little use to the new owner

good luck

is there not a similar tab in system preferences (Leopard) that allow you to wipe the memory?

Did your Macbook come with the OSX DVD? If purchased new it should have. Put that in the drive and boot up. Open Disk Utility and Erase the drive then go back to the installer and let it install. It will be like when you first turned on the Mac when it was new.
