So I'm very eager to switch to mac, and found a used Mac powerbook G4 15 inch for 400 dollars. But I'm wondering if I should just wait until holiday to get a Mac pro?

Wait. Waste of money if you buy that PowerBook. Might regret not buying something a little newer.

And do you mean a Mac Pro, the big silver shiny ones, or a MacBook Pro? World of difference but make sure you get at least a Core 2 Duo capable of running Lion.

Mac Book Pro line was just updated, and Apple doesn't do holiday price drops. So if you want a MBP notebook, now is the time to buy a brand new one. Don't waste your time with the Powerbook.

Powerbook is AT LEAST six years old. Would you pay $400 for a six-year-old Windows machine? Not bloody likely!

It's not mandatory to buy THE latest Mac, but a recent one (ie within two years) is ALWAYS the best option if you can afford it.
