Server Corrupting Files?

Since upgrading our late model G4's to OSX in the past year, we've had sporadic problems with files doing weird things on the server (FreeBSD Unix). Most recently a Quark file was converted to an Excel extension, lost all file data (4k) and cannot be restored. Same thing happened to an Illustrator file. In another case, my Quark file was replaced by a JPEG that another artist had downloaded earlier in the day. He was certain he had not simply saved over my file - completely different job folders.

Is anyone experiencing similar problems? Let me know what I can clarify.

try repairing permissions, and please use indesign, quark has been known to cause file corruption and destroys any security measures implimented on your server, plus indesign is so much better.

InDesign v. Quark is a different issue. However, this has happened with Adobe products as well, which leads me to believe it's something with the OS and network. It happens on multiple workstations, so I don't see how repairing permissions could be the answer. Although that does seem to be everyone's first response to a problem, so I may be wrong.

Has anyone experienced this specific problem?
