PowerBook G4 1.67Mhz Hi Res - 2gig RAM, 100g 7200 HD + Pismo G3 400Mhz - 512mb RAM, 30g HD
I cant see my serial number either when I click through my Macs details on the 'About this Mac' screen or in System Profiler...I could before. It may be a coincidence but I've only just received my Mac back from an AASC and I know I could see the serial in these places before it went. Any ideas on what gone on here??? Cheers

Doh, after thinking about it - my logic board was replaced so I'm guessing that's why the serial number has gone. I still have the sticker inside the battery compartment with the serial but I wonder what would happen if I didn't and I wanted to book in another repair under Applecare - how would they know the serial of my Mac?

I was just going to ask if your logic board had been replaced!

Yeah that would change the serial number, all right. Looks like you'll have to look into your Mac, though and look at the new logic board. How to find the serial number of your Apple hardware product.

Or:

- if it's a notebook model, you could always drop it off at the Apple Store nearest you and ask a genius to check it out for you so you could write it down and store it somewhere safe for future reference

- maybe a call to AppleCare might help you find out without looking into your Mac.

Let us know how you will proceed and the outcome of this. Good luck! :)

Huh, I'm glad I ran across this. I didn't know getting a new LB affected the serial number. I just got a new LB myself. I checked for my serial number under "about this Mac" and it says "System Suemb" whatever that is.
