I wonder if there is a way for me to attach Microsoft Office so that my son can have Word on his MacBook Pro. His computer died and he has Word docs on it he can't open. Not very good when in university. Thanks for your help.

Go to the Microsoft Office Mac store and buy for a copy for him or you can purchase a discounted copy on Amazon. If your copy is the three installation version, then it is possible to send a copy to your son giving him the serial number at the same time.

However, it might be easier for him to download the free Open Office or the free Libre Office. Both are compatible with MS Office.

TextEdit, Pages, the free Bean, the aforementioned free office suites above, and nearly any word processor at any price point available on the Mac and read and write Word documents. If his computer died, I'm not clear on why you think "attaching Microsoft Office" or any other software would help, but opening Word documents is not an issue if he can use literally anyone else's computer to access those documents.
