Hi Folks,

So glad this forum survived.:)

At the office I have a 27" iMac and a matching Thunderbolt display. I've gotten used to that real estate to do my job. With the whole COVID-19 thing, I've been working from home for a month and I miss my second screen. I'm looking at this Dell that has the same native resolution as my home iMac (2560x1440). I'm thinking a Thunderbolt-to-HDMI cable should enable me to use this Dell monitor as a second screen at the same resolution?

Hello M_Six.

I agree with you. If this 27" Dell monitor doesn't come with the proper cable out of the box...getting the proper cable to connect it to your home iMac should do the trick.:)

Thanks, Nick. I figured as much. Amazon sells a Thunderbolt 2-to-HDMI cable that should work fine. Just wanted a vote of confidence before I lay out the cash. Much appreciated. :D

Please let us know how it goes (may help others too).:)

I think this 27" Dell monitor has been around for a while (it was around when Apple was still selling the Apple 27" Thunderbolt display)...and was kind of an alternative to the Apple 27" monitor.

Thanks,

- Nick

I would not recommend that display. It's a TN panel that is best for gaming, but not as high quality as IPS panels. I just picked up a ViewSonic VX2785-2K-mhdu monitor that is quite nice and it's an IPS display.

Got the new Dell set up. I like it. Good, solid monitor. Some nice features and a sharp, crisp, bright image. Now my iMac settings are looking a bit dull in comparison. Great having lots of real estate now for working from home.

Congrats M_Six...great to hear everything worked out.:)

I work with a dual display setup as well. I'm used to having a lot display real estate...that I don't feel like dual displays a lot anymore. Kinda wish I had a 3rd monitor.;)

My new desk, arriving in about 2 weeks, just might have room for 3. ;)
