Recently installed Lion. When I search, how do I know if the system is still searching or is done? On Snow Leopard, there used to be a little "thinking" indicator that went away when the search was completed. In Lion, there seems to be no such thing.

Also, it sure would be nice to have some sort of a progress bar for searching.

Download the free "Find Any File" and use it instead of Spotlight. I find Spotlight too slow and not intuitive enough for most new users.

Thanks for the tip. I don't mind the speed of spotlight; its just the one problem I've always had with Macs: no HD indicator light and generally no progress bars.

You can get the Hard Drive indicator lights by installing Istat Menus 3 but it will cost you $16.00. The program also has many more items that can be monitored in addition to providing hard drive indicator lights.
