I have a MacBook Pro 10.8.5.
I've been attempting to download and run the application Scribus through SourceForge.net.
I have set security preferences to allow application downloads from "anywhere."
The download seems to go okay, but I can't open the program to run and use it.
The version is Scribus 1.4.2.
In one case a msg says "file not recognized" when I try to install it.
Another asks me to choose an application to install with.
Any help would be appreciated with what I'm guessing is an operator error.
Thanks all.

Only one thought. Where did you download it from ~ Source Forge itself? I see the dreaded softonic well to the fore in Google searches and never download anything from there.

Doesn't Scribus require X11?
I do know it requires Ghostscript to print.

What is the extension on the file that you downloaded?

I get two files

One is Scribus-1.4.5.dmg

When I click on that I get this window:

"The following disk images couldn't be opened"
Image Reason
scribus-1.4.5.dmg not recognized

The other is scribus-1.4.5.dmg.part

When I click on that I get this window:

"There is no application set to open the document “scribus-1.4.5.dmg.part”.
"Search the App Store for an application that can open this document, or choose an existing application on your computer."

Choose Application Cancel Search App Store.

I just downloaded Scribus 1.45 dmg from SourceForge.net. No problem whatsoever. The app installed and when I opened it, it built a font cache and then displayed a blank working template - like dialogue to use. As far as I can tell, it only downloaded one file. When installed it builds a rather large preferences folder under: user/your user name/library, nothing under Application Support and a bunch of usual MacOS stuff in the Applications Folder. And yes, I already have X11 installed from a previous app that I use.

Whatever it is you're doing the app is either not compatible or you're not downloading the correct dmg file.

So did I. Took about 3 minutes. .dmg mounted fine but I didn't install.
Possibly he didn't finish the download?
