Recently, something has changed with the way screenshots are saved.

Up to now when I have created a screenshot with [shift+command+4] it has been saved in dropbox labeled as a screenshot with the time and date as part of the name. Now the screenshots are initially saved in Preview labeled "untitled" and I am not sure why it changed or how to change it back.

Any suggestions?

I'm glad you got that sorted. Screenshots are saved to Desktop in all Macs. So you must have chosen an alternative - Dropbox it seems.
