Saving to time capsule

I am using time machine backing up to time capsule. All was OK untill recently when the back up went from incremental to full i.e. 155GB, very time consumptive. I have read somewhere that a corrupted file could instigate a full backup and that such files can be found by using the console utility, except I cant find the console utility. Is it possible to repair using the Leopard disc supplied by Apple
