safari problems

I've used safari for quite a long time and never had any problems until recently. I bought a new Imac and macbook and i'm having issues on the IMac. More times than not, if I click on a link (say in this forum) that links me to another site, I get a safari error message saying it can't connect to that particular server. it also happens when I try and access my email from the bookmarks. So far, those are the only places i've noticed it. any suggestions
