Safari can't find server

I'm getting that with Firefox and IE too. I can't open email without getting a message like that. My PC was hacked a week ago and the hackers wanted a little ransom money to fix it. I moved to the iMac and found this problem, which pretty much limits what I can do here.

Probably the first order of business would be to fix the iMac.

What causes Safari not to find a server?

The server is down, wrong url address, server is busy. In either of those cases, it would show up as the same error.
