running windows on my i mac

When I am creating the partition to run windows on my imac it asks how much space from my hard drive i would like to designate to windows....... can i change this figure once I have installed it? Thanks

You can but it will require special software to do so. My advice is allow enough space when you first create the partition with the Boot Camp assistant so as not to need to resize later on. If you're installing Windows 7 64 bit, allow plenty of room for applications and the OS.

Only if you don't leave OS X with enough disk space to breathe.

sorry for my lack of knowoledge but if i have 1 tb of hard drive space how much should i leave for it to run "comfy"?

You will hear varying amounts - I am at the extreme end - I recommend an absolute minimum of 15% free space on any partition with an OS. In my experience, the percentage does not change with the size of the drive/partition. At 10%, you will see the effects in how your system runs. Not talking here about whether it will still run or not.

Personally, I begin noticing slow downs that are directly related to the amount of free space at about 30% - in both Windows and OS X - this has been my experience in drives all the way up to 1 TB in size. Have never yet put an OS on one of the new 2-3TB drives. Nowadays, I do my best to keep all of my OS partitions at 35-40% free space to avoid these slow downs and spinning beach balls.

With drives that are relegated to data only, I use 5%.
