Rumor I heard: 14" iBooks = buggy?

Hey everyone. I'm sorry if this post seems asinine or too demanding, but it's something I need to look into. I'm more of a PC guy (not that I think they're better, it's just how I turned out) and my girlfriend is thinking of getting a refurbished 14" iBook.

I have a co-worker who is apple certified or something--point is, she knows a lot about macs. I asked her about the 14" iBooks and sure enough, first thing she says to me is "Don't get one". She said that because they use a different board or something that they're highly buggy. Another coworker of mine testified to this as well. Is there anything to this? If so, is it just certain years or models of 14" iBooks. And I really hate to sound too demanding, but if there is something to what I've heard about these, where can I turn to find something reputable to show to my girlfriend? I'd hate for her to end up buying one of these things and have problems with it, but she probably won't pay much heed to me just telling her that a couple of random people from work said they're "bad". She's a librarian...she needs documentation and good sources for this kind of thing.

Thanks very much for reading this. ANY help at all is MUCH appreciated.

P.S. Bear in mind here I'm talking about the iBooks, NOT the powerbooks. She basically doesn't have the money for a powerbook, otherwise there wouldn't even be an issue.

there was a logic board issue with the earlier iBooks. i believe that it has been resolved with a recall. if it is an apple refurbished iBook, i dont think that there would be anything to worry about.

i'm a library assistant if that offers any clout ;)

i've got a 14in ibook and have had zero problems. i haven't really heard anything about the 14in ibooks being more buggy/less buggy than the 12in. I would advise you to purchase applecare.....just for peace of mind. it's a really solid machine. i've had it for about 6-7 months and couldn't have been happier with the purchase.

Of course the fact that you're a library assistant offers clout. Anyone who works in a library is automtically cool--duh.

Thanks for the input so far, people.

The ibooks DID have the logic-board issue at one time, but they were all recalled. I am on my second ibook in as many years. I went to an ibook, back to a pc, so the wife and I would be compatibe, then back to an ibook, because sometimes being compatible just isn't worth the pc headaches(even if it's with the wife). I have had no problems with either. If you are buying a re-furb, then the logic board issue would have been corrected in that book. A lot of times re-furbs have less problems than new. New models you have to work out the kinks. Re-furbs already have been broken in, kinks worked out, re-inspected, repaired, parts changed, and re-certified. I would say without a doubt, get it.

I am on my second iBook (now I have a 14" and I have had NO problems with it so far (it's been a week). Normally, if something were wrong, it probably would have croaked by now. I had an iBook 12" for a year and had no problems either. i upgraded for the bigger screen and sold my old one to my uncle who needed a newer mac.
