My issue is that having paired my motorcycle helmet (Schuberth C4 Pro; SC1 bluetooth insert) to my iPhone 11, but with some difficulty, the verbal route instructions from the App are not getting through to the built-in earphones.

I thought if the helmet and iPhone are paired, then any App on the phone would be too ?

Once paired AND connected, yes all audio from the iPhone should go through the BT connection. You can confirm this is the case by swiping down from the top-right to bring down control center and look at the Volume bar, you should see a Headphones icon on it as opposed to the usual volume icon.

You should go into Settings->Bluetooth and confirm that the helmet is actually connected.

Play other sounds (like the ringtone) to confirm that the helmet is connected and receiving the audio before going to the app in question.

Thanks R. BT is on but no headphone icon, just volume. And my 'Night Owl' ringtone isn't going to the helmet.

It sounds like the helmet is not paired properly to your iPhone 11 if the sound is not getting through. Do you by chance have anything else paired to your iPhone 11? And are you trying to connect with the helmet outside while on your motorcycle or inside your home with the helmet on?

If nothing else works trying to pair the helmet, backup your iPhone 11 to your Mac and to the cloud, then turn off BT on the phone, reboot, and try again.

And I guess we should ask..... Is your helmet compatible with BT on an iPhone?

Beyond the BT settings being on, you should see a list of paired devices there and one of them should say Connected. If none of them do, try clicking on the Helmet's name to see if it will connect. If that doesn't work, power down the helmet and turn it on again to see if it will connect.

Until you see the helmet is connected in BT settings, don't try anything else.

Here's what the iPHONE 11 BT page says in Settings:
My Devices
SC1S BLE Not connected
SC1S v2.0.1 Connected

On tapping the BLE (whatever that is) it reports 'connection unsuccessful'

I'm not sure why there are two devices showing here. The SC1 unit fits snugly into the helmet side and there's only one of them. This will be the 'helmet name' you refer to.

Off ---> On... .still no sound coming through ('Night Owl'). On switching the helmet on; 'she' welcomes you by saying 'hello phone connected' and off 'goodbye'

BLE = Bluetooth Low Energy, it's the latest spec of BT 4.0 to allow the system to use less energy (and thus less distance of communication and perhaps less bandwidth) to prolong the battery life of the device.

Odd that both the device and phone are suggesting that they are connected but audio isn't flowing. Ensure that you raise the volume on both the phone and device to maximum to see if that yields anything.

When a BT or external headphone is connected, most of the audio is automatically routed to that device by the iPhone automatically. Where you specifically get a choice is during a phone call, you get the Audio button which allows you to switch between the iPhone, Speaker and any connected devices.

I have not, to my recollection, seen a similar control for general sounds.

I use a Cardo system with my motorcycle helmet and once connected all of the music and Apple maps instructions come flowing through the helmet without any issues.

Yes I did 'f'.
But I can report an update. I have now after an overnight rest, managed to get sound through and progressing this today with a test ride.

Night Owl 'test' from Settings still does not get through but a real phone call does AND finally Calimoto and Google Maps instructions now. The problem may have been an on/off start-up thing or a volume setting on either the phone or the SC1 unit. I'm goinmg to write some far better initiation instructions for Schuberth pointing out the things to be careful of. Theirs are woeful if you're a beginner like me.

However two issues remain; this one....
Here's what the iPHONE 11 BT page says in Settings:
My Devices
SC1S BLE Not connected
SC1S v2.0.1 Connected

And the firmware dowmload software from Schuberth still seems not to recognise the SC1 helmet module, as you can see.
