I keep getting this message from "Advanced Mac Cleaner" I hope I have attached a screen shot. Is this junk or something to pay attention to?
This has been showing up once a day for over a week now.

Junk/spam/malware/scareware, take your pick. Whatever browser you are running, be sure to add Adblock Plus and Ghostery (or uBlock origin) to them. That will prevent this crap from show up.

Also, download, install and run Malwarebytes for Mac, https://www.malwarebytes.com/mac/, the free version will be fine. However, it will install the full version, and you will get a 30 trial of all options. You don’t need all the other options, unles they let you feel safer.

I keep getting this message from "Advanced Mac Cleaner"…

I'm not sure if you've solved your problem or not, but if not, is that window popping up in your browser or via email or all on its own or what???

It's popping up on it's own in the top right corner, usually in the morning part of the day.. Not via e-mail. I delete it and it shows up again the next morning.

This sounds like it is a notification. Go into System Preferences > Notifications, and see what is listed, it could be coming from a particular website you visited. If it’s not listed there, it could be in your browsers Preferences. What browser do you use?

You are using an older OS X version, as Mavericks (10.9) is four versions back from the current High Sierra (10.13), so some options may be different.

I use Safari and Firefox. My OS is Sierra 10.12.6. not Mavericks.
Did not find anything listed in system preferences.

Did you look in your browsers Preferences, for Notifications? They both should have a tab/page that lists all the websites that have asked for your permission to send you these notifications. The only other thing it may be caused by, is an anti-virus app, or other cleaner type app, that has been installed to your Mac.

@minibill

This is what member ferrarr (Bob) is talking about - Safari > Preferences > Websites and on the left scroll down till you see Notifications:

S1.jpg

Clicking on the arrows gives two options Allow or Deny.

Thanks @IWT for providing the image. Also, if you click to select one, you will then have the option to delete (remove) the item.

Where do I find adblock and ghostery to download? I found advanced mac cleaner in my applications folder and moved it to the trash. I think I need professional help here. (One of my sons)
I tried the link to macsecurity and could not locate advanced mac cleaner under "activity monitor"

Both of these are extensions you get for Safari, FireFox or Chrome.

To get all parts deleted, you can get their uninstaller from here, just follow the particular directions:

Wow!!! Sure lots of hits and removal suggestions with a quick web search. Might help to have a read or two to get rid of whatever it is:

This one looks very good with illustrations included:

Maybe I have fixed the problem. I followed the instructions from the link to macsecurity.net/view/109. When I opened my activity monitor I could not find entry for "advanced mac cleaner" anywhere so I went to the next steps and they all went as stated in the link. I have not had the pop-up for 2 mornings in a row. Have not installed malewarebites, adblock or ghostly yet. Looks good so far.

Good to read that you seem to have got a solution.

Let's hope it stays that way, and at least you now know how to fix such annoying things now. :Blushing:
