When I click or double click on folder names they used to change so I could modify them. Now nothing happens. I double click at different speeds and still no luck. The only way to do it now is to 'right click on the name', select "rename" and then rename it. What am I doing wrong?

It's a preference/setting somewhere.

I usually select the file/folder, then hit the enter/return key on the keyboard.

I am using Ventura, and if I click a folder name (not icon) in finder, and then a second click once the line is highlighted, I can then change the name.

Thanks jimmysb. Sometimes that works, and sometimes it doesn't. Maybe the OS has gotten buggy?

And what setting did you find?
I did as he suggested
"I usually select the file/folder, then hit the enter/return key on the keyboard."

I couldn't find the preference when I looked previous to posting the thread.

Gee, I seem to have missed your post that you posted yesterday, sorry about that...

Try to learn to do it the "right-click way" you mentioned above to rename the file quickly, or you can try doing a click to select and then immediately hit the return or Enter key and the filename-text should be selected and highlighted ready for you to edit it.

Various number of clicks on the filename itself can be so hit-and-miss. Often miss... ;-)

Don't forget that a double-click is usually also set to also Open the file.
