How can this be done. I know how to remove all attachments but cannot seem to remove a selected attachment on its own. Thanks.

That is an older version of Mail, the newest is ver 10.0, just released with Sierra (macOS) this week. Next, latest MBP and OS, just saying that does not tell us what the MBP is and what OS it is running, specifics matter when you are asking for help.
In Mail, are you trying to send a message or are you reading a message? If you are only reading the message, then you can not delete one attachment until you download the attachments. If you are sending an email, you should be able to delete any attachment you added to the message.

I'm away from my iMac at the moment. Posting this from my iPad. But I think this should work.
If it's an email you received, open it, click on "message" from the top tool bar and, from the drop down menu, choose "remove attachments".
If it's an email you have sent and its in your Send mailbox, I don't think you can delete the attachment. But use the same method and give it a try. My recollection is that the "remove attachments" is greyed out. I'm unable to test this being away from my iMac.

Hi Ian, OP only wanted to remove one attachment, not all attachments, in a single email.
@ happyhacker - I still don't understand why, when you get an email with multiple attachments, would you want to delete one attachment? Are the attachments taking up space? Or are you trying to forward an email you received, and want to remove one attachment before forwarding it to someone else?
