Hi guys,

Really need your help. I bought my Macbook Pro about 10 months back. I was bragging about how good the mac is to my friends, and we decided to have a little go at how easy it is to bypass the mac security. They found this code on the internet

"Creating a new Admin on Mac Os X:
Here's how to reset your OS X password without an OS X CD.
the Working solution for me was to create a new admin
you can create new admin like this by deleting a specific file.

You need to enter terminal and create a new admin account:

1. Reboot
2. Hold apple key + s key down after you hear the chime. (command + s on newer Macs)
3. When you get text prompt enter in these terminal commands to create a brand new admin account (hitting return after each line):

mount -uw /
rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
shutdown -h now

4. After rebooting you should have a brand new admin account. When you login as the new admin you can simply delete the old one and your good to go again!"

We did that, and when i started it up, it gave me a brand new screen, like I have started my machine for the first time!! I am a bit scared now, I havent done much, but have I lost any of my data? Does anyone know what I have done??

No you haven't lost any of your data..

But you didn't really prove much with Mac security..since you had to have physical access to the Mac to put a CD in, hold a key sequence and then type commands on a terminal that's only visible to you..

So this more of a recovery thing than a security issue..

Be sure you have a good backup of your data before you try doing things that you don't clearly know the consequences of..

I'm sorry..I don't want to tell you to do something or not to do something because I'm not sure what the next step should be..I'm sure some other members with more longevity with the Mac's will chime in soon enough..
