What is the safest software to use to find and remove bots from a Mac?

If it is possible to have a bot…and you have one…I'm betting you haven't been practicing "safe computing"!;)

Like "louishen" mentioned…please provide more info (be specific what is going on). We get folks ALL THE TIME…thinking because something "weird" is going on with their computer…that right away it has to be something nefarious…rather than just "user-confusion"!;)

Was advised by Comcast our Internet provider that they detected a bot on one of our computers. We have three computers running and they are all Macs

If Comcast advised that they found a "bot" on one of your computers. If they can detect this sort of thing…shouldn't they also be able to advise how to get rid of it?? Thus Comcast is probably the best source for a solution.:)

If Comcast says your running a botnet
it really doesn't matter if their right or wrong.
Take care of it or they'll shut you down.
I would download a free mac antivirus of some sort.
Run a scan on the entire network.

We've had other users who use Comcast as their ISP report the same thing. The problem with Comcast is they do not understand anything about Mac OS X, and, their detection software is geared toward Windows. If you're running OS X or Linux, chances are Comcast will find a "bot" on your machine sooner or later. I don't know what you can do about it except to comply with them or as stated above they may cut you off. If you have a choice of another ISP, you might consider switching.
