Remote iTunes from another MBP

Hi folks,
I have all my iTunes music on a Mac mini (El Capitan) in my office (well the wife has another name for it)
it is configured so that it auto starts and the music is streamed around the house on airplay. I can remote it from an iPad and iPhone.
but is there an app that i can install on the MacBook Pro that would allow me to remote control the library. I know I could VNC to the mac mini or go and use an iPhone or iPad but you would think apple would have thought of this .

I am thinking of upgrading the mac mini to server if this may help

I used to do this between my Mac Pro and MacBook Pro which were in different rooms but on the same network. I think all I had to do was enable remote login and screen sharing on the Mac that was housing the music. You need to know the username and password for an account on the Mac that is housing the music.
