Probably a daft question but my mac book has got 512 ram and I want to find out if that is 512 by it's self or is it 2 256mb.

If it is 512 on it's own is it ok to put a 1gig with it? or should I remove it and just run 1gig?

I have just been to a local Apple dealer and there price for kingston Ram is;

512 $100
1gig $101 Canadian by the way.

Thanks, I have no idea about all this.

I think you will find that your macbook will have two 256's installed.

To verify Click the little Apple; then About this Mac; then More Info; then click Memory on the left hand side under Hardware.
The right hand side will list your current configuration.

The Apple store is going to be expensive compared to almost anywhere else you can buy RAM. Is newegg available there? Should be able to find a 2 gig kit for $120-140 US.
