Ram corrosion?

When I removed the RAM in my MacBook the other day to check the branding I noticed that around the contacts area there was like a white power, almost mold type substance. My first thought's were that this was some kind of corrosion, has anyone else experienced this? Is it maybe some sort of flux used for a better connection? Any help would be appreciated.

The compound is apparently a non-conductive, lithium grease that's applied to ease the installation of RAM chips and it's totally harmless. Some claim that the grease was added because MacBook RAM slots are slightly too thin for the chips.

That's weapons grade computer transferable Anthrax. It was placed there by a terrorist group called the Peoples Liberation of Microsoft Dominancy, the P.L.M.D. If you were to dust the casing around your computer, you would notice splotches of geek stains. Good luck with all that!

True but not to humans it's toxic in large amount.

I remember on my old PC that I was having ram errors. The fix for that was to re seat the ram chips and when I was doing that I noticed a very slight discolouration on the contacts. Cleaned them and it was fine again. But that was not white powder so I would say it is lithium grease or similar to stop corrosion problems.

Yes it is a non-conductive grease that apple uses to help seat the ram in there. I got scared when i saw it on my sticks and took them into the apple store... btw if i upgrade ram does it make that much of a difference between 1gig 533MHZ or 667MHZ?

Currently i have a 256MB 667MHZ and a 512MB 533MHZ and my macbook wigs out when i have more then 4 or 5 apps open.
