Quicktime Error -1404?

What does it mean?

I've begun seeing this error code upon trying to open newly downloaded mpegs. Cannot open due to unknown error -1404. My old saved clips open and play just fine.

OS 9.2.2
Quicktime 6.0.2

error -1404


1401 Failed to open image file for reading

1402 Failed to read image file

1403 No memory for image file

1404 Image is too big

All the Mac OS error lists I've found so far skip from the -1300s to the -1500s or -1700s. The above is from a software page.

The problem is browser specific (helper app configuration error?): clips can be played in IE but not opened or played through Netscape.
