Hey There

I'm kind of shocked that I lost my favourite audio (and sometimes video) editing program since I updated the system to 11.5 Big Sur: Quick TIme 7 Pro :-(
I really loved and needed (and still need) that program for doing instant audio/video fixes (mainly audio however).

I know there are some audio programs out there that can do the same as QT 7 Pro did with audio tracks (Audacity for example). However most of them don't even get close to the simple GUI and features Quick Time Pro used to have. PLEASE don't tell me that Quick Time X is as good as Pro 7 - it's not the case.
I really need a simple audio player and editor that lets me copy a certain section from File A, create a new blank audio file B and simply paste the section from File A in it before exporting it directly as .mp3 or .aac or .wav or .mpeg.....

Any ideas?? I googled so much but couldn't find a satisfying solution yet :-(

cheers

I won't try to convince you that Quick Time Player X is as good as QT Pro 7. I can tell you that many of the editing functions in QT Pro 7 are in QT Player X. I was initially annoyed by the change but have since found that most things I used QT 7 Pro for can be done with QT Player X --including the audio cut and paste mentioned in your post. Here's a video with some tips

You can perform the edit that you described:
1. Split the clip in such a way that the sound you want to keep is in a separate segment. I usually split things in such a way that there are two segments I don't want and one I want.
2. Temporarily get rid of the unwanted segments leaving behind the one you want.
3. Export the audio from the remains clip and copy / paste it into a new file.

The process sounds complicated but isn't difficult .

It might help if we new what other functions you need in an editor.

I much preferred QT7Pro, no question. And as Slydude notes, QTX -though hobbled initially- has slowly added back some of the functionality we were missing.

That said, we like what we like. The QT7Pro way of doing things was pretty sweet. QTX does much the same, but... differently. (I don't know if QTX does MP3 output?).

My suggestion? Dive deep into Audacity, which you already have. I had a project last year involving three days' of conference audio, and after spending a LOT of time with it, I learned the shortcuts and found a workflow that worked for me, including MP3 export. You also can't beat the benefits of having a waveform to visually guide you as you look for empty space to trim out :)

Thanks for your replies guys, really appreciate it!

What QuickTime X doesn't have and Audacity only can do by stopping the track (YES - you can't hear it during adjusting it. It's so ridiculous!) : A/V controls

Hmmm... I don't have time to test this, but I wonder if Garageband allows for live adjustments?

Other options you may not have considered, and again - I haven't tested for the capability you want:

AVID ProTools First (Free)

Ocenaudio (Free)
