Quick Question from a Noob. Trash Can

OK so I just have my trash can on my dock. I can't place documents to my trash can.


How do I place my trash can on my desk top.

I have a macbookpro I bought last year

You cannot place the trash can on the desktop

Why cant you place docs in the trash, by the way cmd <– also works to trash files

Trash can in the Dock is the standard OS. Are the programs that created the documents closed by quitting and not merely closing the window using the red dot?
