Question about Intel Macs

I understand what people are saying that anyone who buys an Intel Mac right now is a guinea pig, but the thing I'm wondering is this: is it the hardware that is potentially bugged or the software? I want to buy a new Intel Mac, and I wasn't sure if what I buy will forever be (potentially) problematic, or if it is just until they release the bug fixes via software update, and then my Intel Mac would be as good as the new ones (given that they haven't upgraded the hardware).

Hopefully that question makes sense.

Both hardware and software seem to be having a few problems. I'm active in quite a few Mac forums and these are the ones that I've seen most often:

Macromedia Flash Player not working. (there is a fix)
Overheating. (not to the point of destruction, but very hot)
Graphics problems. (white bands in FrontRow and screen smearing)
The Infrared Remote not working.
Some USB products not cooperating.

That's about it and they're fairly uncommon. It's up to you in the end, I guess.

Good luck.

So I guess what I'm asking is if the problems like the remote not working and the graphics problems with FrontRow are permanent or if they would be fixed in the future for those who buy Intel Macs now.

I honestly have no idea. My Powerbook has very faint gray lines in it and this was a huge issue with 15" Powerbook owners and Apple never fixed that problem, so I really can't tell you.

Here's a thread where a forum member expresses his/her views on the new Intel Macs.

I do not have any issue with my Imac 17" duocore.
Flash in Safari works fine out of the Box. I beleive the issue with Flash is if you upgrade it to the latest version on macromedia's site which is not a Universal Binary.
Plugin's for Safari, system Pref must be unversal. They cannot run in rosetta.
For me this mostly effects viewing Windows Media content. (Still waiting for a universal Flip4mac) however WMP still runs in Rosetta so can still view 90% of content.

All of my apps are working. Universal Binarys are screaming fast. I have 75% of my apps Universal now. The rest work perfectly fine in rosetta.

The white bands on the 20" Imac with 256 MB of vram is most likely a driver problem and should be fixed in an update. This does not happen on the 128 MB versions I have heard. I don't have this issue on my 17"

My wife's 20" iMac Core Duo has been up and running for a month with no problems. We lucked out. Whenever a rev. A product comes out, I usually stay away, but I wanted to suprise my wife with a new iMac for her birthday. Overall the iMacs don't seem to be having as many problems as the MacBook Pros, and the Minis seem to be trouble-free.

Graphics problem was fixed, overheating is not an issue as it's not really overheating—just a bit hot, flash player works. I'm active on five Mac forums.

I honestly have had NO problems whatsoever with my Intel Mac, and I don't think I'm gonna need that AppleCare extended plan (still good to have it, though- assurance)

The software problem- everything's just scripted for PowerPC macs right now, in a few months everything will either be Intel or Universal.

Only complaint on my intel iMac is that PocketMac for Blackberry does not work and they blame it on the USB interface. My BB 7520 supports bluetooth, the Mac will see it, but I can't get Pocketmac to sync. The Pocketmac people say it should work, but they keep sending me instructions for PocketPC units :/

I got my 17" Duo the day they came out and I've had ZERO problems with it.

The ONLY problem I've noticed (which is more of a.. thing? than a problem) is that when running Star Wars Galaxies in WINDOWS (which is pushing it as-is), the screen seems to be very pixely.

I.Love.My.iMac.Period.
