I have a Beige G3 that I was using up to the point when I bough my 1.6 G5. I gave it to my daughter but now she uses my G5 too. So I was considering selling the G3 but then a co-worked said to just keep it because I probably couldn't give the thing away. Then we got to thinking. I've been wanting to put a Mac in my 98 Honda Civic coupe for a while now. Maybe this is the point where I can do that.
Here's the idea so far. Build a box into the trunk of the car to mount the box into. The G3 has a 32MB ATI card, 80GB Western Digital drive, USB card, and OS X Jaguar. I'd like to mount a switch up front where I could turn on the Mac in the trunk. Next would be to get an LCD screen up front somehow. maybe on some sort of swivel arm by the glove compartment. Touch screen would be the best way to go but I'm not sure how to make that happen. If I can't get a touch screen maybe I could use a Logitech wheel mouse and mount it to the front of the arm rest for navigation.
Of course I'd also have to add an amplifier and run RCA cables from the audio-out to the inputs on the amp and speaker wire from the amp to the speakers. I'd still like to use the Alpine head unit and changer though. Not sure how I would do that.
This could be very cool, especially for car shows.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
