Problems sending mails

Hi, I have a macbook pro 17" running OS 10.6.2.

On my home network I can send and receive emails from entourage and mail.
However whenever I am connected to any other network I can only receive emails but not send them.

There is no error message from Mail, it just times out. Entourage gives me this error:

Sorry, your non-local IP address (90.***.***.***) is not allowed to send email via me.

Your home network is probably requiring a unique outgoing server setting. You are set up to send at home, but the setting doesn't work anywhere else. I have this situation myself. AT&T (formerly Bellsouth) requires me to use an outgoing server setting of mail.bellsouth.net for all emails. Works at home, but is not recognized anywhere else. Elsewhere I have to change the setting to the default for the particular email account I'm using.

Fortunately, it's a quick switch. Entourage > Account Settings... > double click the account your using. At the bottom of the next screen is a setting labeled SMTP Server. This is what needs to be changed.

The setting shown is most likely required for use at home. Write this setting down and save it. Now try this. Change the SMTP Server setting to match the receiving mail server setting above the one you wrote down. See if you can then send emails from public WiFi. (you won't be able to send at home until you change it back.)

If this works, it's probably something you're going to be stuck with. But it only takes a few keystrokes to copy and paste the incoming server setting over the outgoing when you travel about. I can change mine back and forth in under 5 seconds now. Been doing it for years.

If it doesn't work then we'll try something else...

I ave made sure the smtp server settings are the same as the receiving mail server on both Mail and Entourage but still no joy.

This is frustrating to say the least!

Are you using MobileMe? I just noticed the "me" in your original post.

What version of Entourage are you using?

Who is your ISP?

I'm sure we can find someone with the same ISP and also someone using Entourage and MobileMe together who would be willing to share their settings...

Hi, I am using entourage version 12.0.0 and Mail version 4.2. the ISP is SKY Broadband in the UK.

I can use MobileMe and that works fine, sending and receiving.
