I'm attempting to access my hotmail account using mac mail, so i can compse and read offline while traveling. I know this question's been posed a million times BUT, i've already downloaded and installed the http plug-in, set up an http account using the suggested settings, and still can't send or recieve any emails.

A lot of posts i've read were 6 months older or more, so i'm wondering if something's been changed to disallow users to access hotmail, without upgrading to the hotmail plus service. or am i using the wrong incoming and outgoing mail server settings, i'm typing hotmail.com into the incoming field. i'm going traveling soon and need to figure this out....arrgghh.

I really don't want to have to change my email address to a .mac or gmail account as all my travel bookings have used my hotmail address...

Please help?!

Well, as you haven't stated your Mac specs or OS version all I can tell you is that I have an Intel Mac and I downloaded the plug-in from the link below:

httpmail 1.49: Hotmail plugin finally universal

It worked for me on one of my Hotmail accounts but not the other. It doesn't work on newer accounts and the account it DID work on is quite a few years old.

So if the plug-in fails to work for you, it's probably because your Hotmail account is a newer on. You'll need to upgrade to a "Plus" account.

Make sure you follow the instructions to the letter and that Mail.app isn't running when you install the plug-in.

Let us know how you go.

Have you accessed your account from an other mail client before? You must have an "old" hotmail account to use Mail, or you have to pay for the plus service. Only free accounts that were created before that service was introduced still works with a separate mail client.
