Problem with ethernet cable and router.

Hey there ! I follow How to crimp ethernet cable other guide to make a ethernet cable for my router. I put cable from my ISP on WAN port on router and my cable on 1 port on my router. When I login on router settings I see it's connected to ethernet, but I not have ethernet on my computer, any suggestions?

I used to crimp my own cables until I figured out it was cheaper in the long run to buy pre-made and cut cables that were already factory crimped. It's real easy to ruin a connector or to incorrectly crimp the wires by sequence. I suggest buying a ready made CAT-5 cable instead.

With really good quality Cat-5 Cable, I never have issues, but some that has wires with a memory of their own, it's a pain to get all the wires in line before pushing them into the RJ-45. I have had a few times with that type of cable where wires reversed just pushing it in even fast! Of course it did not work. Never happens to me with cable with non springy wires if you know what I am talking about.

I have a feeling the OP got one set of wires wrong. I always use the T568B standard as I see that in 99.5% of the factory made cables in every store I have ever been at. T568B is Orange/White Orange at pins 1-2.

If you keep having issues, get a store bought cable and try it.

I find it simpler to use wall/surface mounted RJ45 Ethernet sockets wired radially with Cat5. They are easier to terminate with the correct tool and there is normally a colour coded guide with them so that you get the polarity correct.

You then just need a short patch lead from the router to the first socket and then a patch lead from the socket at the other end to your ethernet socket on the computer
