I have concept, but I'm unsure if this is something a MAC can accomplish, or if there are better options. Advice or suggestions welcome.

I have a commercial grade print shop for non-commercial use. It includes a banner printer, engraver, sublimation printer, vinyl cutter, and commercial copier/printer. I would like to have a computer and storage on a closed network with these units. I would like the ability to work remotely on a macbook, then when I return connect that macbook to the network to back it up and/or print on one of these devices. I will not use the internet on this network.

Am I in la la land, or is this something that could be accomplished? If so, what should I be looking to purchase?

It depends on what devices you have and whether or not they're supported by OS X. In other words, are their drivers for the latest Mac operating system? You need to do your homework on all of that before investing in a new Mac.

We probably need a bit more information. Which Mac and version of OS X is involved? We'll also need to know the models of the various other gear to determine whether appropriate drivers are available.

Thanks. We'd likely use Yosemite, unless there was reason not to. I'm working out the software issues with the equipment vendors, but thus far it looks like I'll be all set with drivers and software that works with Mac.

It's a blank slate as far as the equipment or operating system. I can buy whatever will work best.
