Preview problems

Just recently every time I open an attachment and it launches preview, it takes forever to open w/ the spinning beach ball going on and on. I cannot figure out what has changed. Any ideas of what has happened and how to correct it?

I could be something as simple as repairing permissions.
People are going to need the specifications of your Mac (model, year, OS, RAM, available hdd space, etc.) before they can really be at a place to give logical suggestions/solutions.
