Hi there,

I recently got a G5 2.5Ghz dual given to me as the previous owner didnt have the time or energy to find out what was wrong. So where am i at?

here:

Power comes on, fans spin up, optical drive spins up to - as long as the screen is not plugged in. with screen in nothing at all...

Have tried reseting PRAM, SMU, have checked the power supply.

Also with RAM out, no beep...

Best guess is that its the logic board? but this thing with the graphics card/screen is throwing me... makes me think it could be Gcard instead?

Anyone got any ideas cos this is driving me insane! just wanna get it working.....for less than the cost of buying another machine!!

Any help greatly appreciated!!

I can't offer you too much advise other than try another monitor first (if you can). The computer starting up fine without the monitor is definitely strange...

What model 2.5GHz is the G5? If it is a Dual Core problem maybe leaking coolant killing the machine. Next suggestion remove graphics card, clean connectors and reseat firmly and see if there is any joy.

If the former owner gave you the original system discs may be able to boot and run Apple Hardware Test, but I bet he didn't.

It is (i think) the late 2004 model - dual, single core processors, 8x AGP graphics + 3x pcix bays. single rj45 connector at the back. Have tried new RAM, matched pair, but will certainly try again.

Didn't get the system discs, but he is a friend so he said he would have a look for them.

Have tried with a different monitor, and will also try with the ADC connector as well...

Thanks for the suggestions, will let you know how it goes!!
