I know dell special orders ati cards that are specific for it's computer (since I have a dell with an x300 that is supposedly specially made for Dell). Does this also apply to apple's ati 9700's in their laptops? Are they on par with the pc version of the 9700?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

The X300 in your Dell is most unlikely made for Dell specifically, it's still the same GPU at the end of the day.

Yes -- is the short answer as to the 9700s performance on the Mac Vs. PC. Of course that's in raw benchmarks.

However as I have said before, please don't try to be choked up around benchmarks, they tend to distract from the point of having a computer -- to get on and do stuff and be creative. Not that I am soothing the pain you will find when you find a PBook slow -- far, far from it -- as I have found the 12" PowerBook I have to be blisteringly fast at all the things I do and it always keeps up with me.

Either way; you love it -- they are very sweet machines!

I had a ATI 9800 128mb on my old Dell before it broke and i gave it away. And i actually think the 128 card in my powerbook is faster than on my dell. when i used to play games a few months ago they where always smooth.
