check this out for more on possible future happenings...

if you look on the Apple Web site, and choose IMAC from the store section - they have modified the Web site to incorporate the new ILIFE information (has new ILife logo)...

they haven't done that for the PowerBook... no new logo - no mention of GarageBand (although there isn't mention on the IMAC section also)...

could that possibly mean that they have a new PowerBook Web page that they are holding in the Wings until a major annoucement - during a SuperBowl advertisement?

maybe not a G5, but perhaps lower prices on their PowerBooks - since although they are THE BEST - they could probably gain additional market share (or at least it wouldn't hurt) to be even more competitive price-wise with Win PCs...

or is this "just my imagination - runnin away from me (Temptations)?

too soon for the G5 to be hitting notebooks. They produce too much heat in their current state. 7 fans needed to cool 1 cpu? It will be another year or so.

I disagree, I think they could do it, but it would just be smart to make people wait.

I mean really, apple would have to be pretty dense to start models for the G5 pb the day after the tower was released. I would bet they have been working on both models the same amount of time.

I hear they are working on a system of liquid cooling to solve the problem of overheating. I think the biggest issue is the G5 processor sucking the battery dry in no time...

*sigh*

well, I will give them 8 months in good faith. I can see them trying to have integrated liquid cooling in the cpu. But that would cost way too much. So maybe 2 internal fans.

I see only two possibilities.

A june/summer release 2004, which I give a 40% chance to.

or..

A june/summer release 2005, which I give a 90% chance to.

each date is its own statistic.

winter releases are so minor, it would just be crazy for apple to release anything so large.

liquid cooling

heard that Apple is seriously considering a beer-powered coolant system... user wears one of those baseball caps with the dual beer can holders and associated straw_like devices for sippability... in addition to providing all the vitamins, minerals, protein and carbs (with no fat) for the PowerBook G5 user - the beer will also pass through the clear titanium (a NASA developed product that Apple was able to use), in various cooling loops, before passing back out of the Powerbook... can't wait...

seriously... cooling would be a massive challenge (in the OH SO sleek Powerbook current form factor) even though the solved the situation in the 1u servers...

as for me... waiting till the SuperBowl to pull the trigger on a 15" Alu Powerbook (my ONE, OH_SO_FINE dream machine)... will be fun to watch the SuperBowl football game and normally wonderful advertisements... am hoping that Apple will come out with some sort of advertisement to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Mac, which so far appears to be mostly acknowledged/celebrated by users and well wishers, versus the company...

cheers,

I totally agree with Stanley on this one, the cooling of the processor I don't think would be the main problem it's mostly the battery life which I'm sure wouldn't be that much of a problem either, just the fact that they would be expensive batteries in place and expensive chips making this one hellaciously expensive PB...

Graphite,

need mobility sooner than later for a home move this Spring...

could wait seveal more months for a P5 Powerbook, but don't want to be without compute power during our move (as I was last time, 5 years ago), and we currently only have a very dependable, 4 year old, Dell PIII desktop running XP Pro...

an_other idea that haunts me is to go with a cheaper IBOOK now, and then later after the move - get a P5 desktop... don't think that idea (the P5 desktop later part of it) would make sense to my partner/advisor in financial affairs (my wife - the more logical of the two of us when it comes to buying decisions)... I want DVD write capability especially so that I could get that cool, free (with a Mac) program, IDVD...

am very psyched to get my first Mac... can't believe I have waited this long, but the forums and other readings have definitely helped me to learn TONS about Macs, OS/X, etc, etc...

either way I will watch the SuperBowl on Sunday - if not for the game, then for the always entertaining advertisements (including the Apple/Pepsi ad)...

Graphite - how long have you owned Macs? how many have you owned? how much do you like them?

have a great Thursday!,

SuperBowl came and went...

Great Pepsi Itune advertisement, and IPODs had their 10% discount going on via the Apple site, however,
the price of Powerbooks stayed the same... now it is a matter of time (not much) before I pull the trigger on
my G4-powered powerbook purchase...

Ive owned macs for 20 years :D, I own 1 apple and around 7 macs. I obviously like them enough to be buying them :D

Its really up to you when you want to buy your mac, they are great either way, a mac will last you with useability for 5-6 years, then after that its up to you how you use it. Get one right now and thats a good many months before they upgrade the macs. Someone could wait forever for the best mac and never get it.
