Hi All - not sure if this post belongs in hardware or software, so mods, please move if inappropriate....

I have a macbook pro with a single FW800 port. I have noticed that it still powers the device (presonus audio interface) even when the laptop is shutdown.

Trolling through the net, I discovered that this is normal behaviour when the laptop is connected to power, but it doesn't occur with the power disconnected.

The issue is the presonus doesn't have a power switch and I don't really want to keep unplugging the presonus from the laptop because this will eventually damage the port. The only option left is to disconnect the laptop from the power supply every time I shut down.

Is there a way to get the macbook to disconnect the power to the FW port on shutdown?

thanks

Paul

Interesting. I would have thought that when the machine was shut down, power to the ports was removed. Are you sure you're not talking about putting the machine to sleep rather than a complete power off?

If what you say is correct, I know of no way to remove power from the FW port other than to pull the plug. You can always use a switchable AC power strip for convenience if you have to.

Regards.

Well, I'm pretty new to macs, but I assume that if I click the apple icon and select "shut down" from the menu, then the computer would shut down. I reckon your idea about the switchable AC power strip will be the solution.

thanks
