I'm new to Mac and have done that thing that other newbies have done, i.e. I saw files in the 'last week' section and thought they could be deleted. I didn't realise they were the actual files and programmes. I have retrieved the files (all 7000 of them) from the trash and they are now on my desktop (what a mess). Can anyone PLEASE tell me how to get the files to go back to their original locations? I have no idea where they should go and, even if I did, I couldn't shift 7000. I've made a very stupid mistake and would be very grateful if you could get me out of this hole.

How long have you had your Mac? If a short time the easiest thing is to reinstall the OS and start again. There are too many files (7000) for a short answer.
