Well I've had my MBP 1.83 for a total of a week today. It's seems to want to crash on a daily basis doing minor stuff....I do mostly iLife stuff, music, and some programming. I haven't put a huge load on it for sure. As a whole I love the machine, but it whines (and I'm sure it's getting louder, and no I honestly don't think it's in my head), the heat isn't too bad, but another example is using the video out. Which I hooked the DVI connection to my TV to use Front Row, after unhooking it, within a minute or two the screen turns into a garbled mess and becomes unresponsive.

I'm considering returning the MBP and buying a Macbook 2.0 GHz with a gig of ram. I thought I would be playing a lot of games, but I realized that I won't be. I essentially use it for iLife, programming/web design, and school stuff.

Basically in a nutshell I'm wondering if there are any major problems reported with the Macbook as of yet (other than a bit of heat)? Most importantly, please tell me it doesn't whine like the MBP.

Thanks!!

I have had the 1.83 for about a week now with no problems, looks as if you got a defective unit.

Well MBP going back today. LOVED it but not willing to pay over $2000 for a computer with a bunch of annoying glitches. I got a 2.0GHz Macbook ordered with some upgrades plus Apple care for cheaper so I'm just hoping that the Macbook holds up like the reviews say and it appears that other than getting fairly warm they're operating just nicely.

That's a good move considering u r not using many video card hogging apps. MacBook is the best bang for the buck so far.

Yeah, I totally agree. Now that I've done some more reading I like the idea of more portability and the Macbook is rated for 6 hours battery life as opposed to 4.5 on the MBP. I know that's at optimal conditions (low backlight, no wi-fi/BT, etc.) but still in comparison it's more and for me that's a huge plus when I'm at University. Also, I would have liked to run Aperture for the odd time I'd like to play around with it, but since my camera doesn't shoot in RAW it probably isn't a huge loss. However, I hear that it can still run it ok. The Intel graphics has actually got some good reviews, the key is just to make sure you have lots of system ram. In the same breath, when Apple has all the quirks worked out of the Macbook Pro it's going to be an AWESOME machine, it's right there now...just needs a bit slightly refined on the inside.
