Hi,

I copied a backup of my work laptop folders (windows XP) directly to my Airport time capsule (ie to the external storage, not via time capsule software), so it is likelely to be in NTFS format.

Anyway, that was a few years ago, ive never needed it and now dont even have a windows machine so time to delete....however now I cant! I dont have the permission to do it.

I have tried rm -rf link/to/folder but to no avail.

As this drive also holds the timecapsule file i am loathed to reformat the drive. Is there a quick and easy way to delete this folder and all the contents? I used to work in IT and have some knowledge but I admit that was a good few years ago so very rusty....any reminders as to what i would need to do.

Many thanks

If the drive is formatted HFS+, then so is the folder. You cant have an NTFS folder on an HFS+ drive.
Use the rm command again but this time put sudo in front of it. It will ask for your password. This is your login password. You wont see it but it's taking it.

Have you tried simply right clicking the folder and clicking 'get info' to check the permissions. Usually you can just edit the permissions right there.

And I second what cradom said. NTFS, HFS+, FAT32, etc are file systems for the physical drive rather than the files
