.pdf and word docs won't open properly.

MacBook Pro 2.6ghz, 4gb ram, 200gb 7200rpm, 17" HD GLOSSY
I have acrobat 9.0 and word 2008 installed.

I imported all of my word and .pdf docs from my vista based PC.

When I open the word documents in word 2008 on my macbook pro it opens the document, but it's empy.

and I am getting error messages when I try to open my .pdf document that work fine on my PC...any NEW .pdf's (from the macbook) work fine..

Anyone?

Way... way too many specs to list.
with PDFs are you using Acrobat to read them or Preview? Have you tried using the other?
