ok, we just brought in a PC into the office. now, our server is a G4 mac with osx on it. (just a reg computer acting as our filemaker server) but we share files and printers through it. I plugged in the pc to our network line, and set it up. it hooks up to the internet but I can't seem to figure out how to get it to share printers or show the server icon on the desktop.

I've been networking the macs for so long I forgot all about PC"s

any suggestions as to what I need to do?

You have to turn on Windows Sharing on the G4 Server in System Prefs under Sharing.

Then you can access the shares under \\10.0.1.x\share off the G4 from the Windows machine.

For printers, install the Unix File/Print Sharing option under Windows Components (2000/XP only). Then add a printer and choose Local (not network) and choose to Add a Port, and select LPR. The next screen asks for IP and Print Queue name. Punch in the IP, and to get the print queue name, go to Printer Utility on the G4 and get the name off the printer.
ie: HP_LaserJet_6L (be sure to include underscores if they exist, as a rule I am case-sensitive and follow suit to match on both sides)

Hope this helps
